Trauma Processing and Crisis Counselling
Individual Counselling is offered to each woman at Alice Housing. Employing a woman centred holistic approach to supportive counselling, women process trauma and lived experiences in a gentle and empowering journey with our counsellor. Areas such as past abuse, the cycle of violence, improved self esteem, coping strategies, healthy boundaries and anger management are all explored in each counselling session which is created in vision and direction by each woman’s needs and expectations. Goal setting, career and educational planning become points of reference for her time within Alice Housing.
Psycho-educational Support Groups:
The Personal Empowerment Program for Women Leaving Domestic Abuse (PEPWLDA) is a 40 week structured group workshop specifically designed to assist women who have made the courageous decision to leave domestic violence in an effort to rebuild their lives away from abuse.
This group work is specifically geared to assist women therapeutically with their challenges present in their lives after leaving domestic abuse. For many women, the feelings of hopelessness, anger, loneliness, shame coupled with low self esteem and low self worth leave them vulnerable to either returning to their abusive or developing a new unhealthy relationship. This program is designed to explore the feelings which may go with these actions in a safe and nurturing group environment. The program content is woman-centred, focused on healing the past while planning new beginnings with the absence of violence
The goals of the work are:
♀ To provide a safe environment conducive to open, honest and non judgemental and supportive discussion surrounding intimate partner violence.
♀ Provide the opportunity for women to develop positive coping skills thus enabling them to deal with a variety of personal issues while becoming aware of the cycle of abuse.
♀ To increase each woman’s self worth and self sufficiency so that life goals can be achieved while sustaining life’s basic necessities.
♀ Provide an opportunity for women to develop and nurture supportive connections with each other while respecting boundaries and each others experiences.
Personal Development Programs:
These “self help” programs assist women with practical, effective and skill building goals which will empower women to take charge of their lives again as they move away from the control and manipulation of an abusive relationship.
Some of our workshops offered include:
♀ Credit counselling and budgeting
♀ Career and resume coaching
♀ Information on the Criminal and Family Court System
♀ Safety Planning
♀ Educational Upgrading
♀ Self Defence and Self Care
